We will start with a couple of
Birthdays....
Our Wells Road practice this year
celebrates its 80th birthday of serving the local
community as an independent opticians.
It all began back in 1933 when it was
first opened by a Mr Percy Cook, who served reliably for 32 years
until handing over the reigns to Michael Owen in 1965. Mr Owen was
well loved within the local community, and after an even more
impressive 35 years of serving the community, he decided that the time was right to hand over the practice to Lynne and Gerard in 2000. The past 13 years has seen the practice transform into a vibrant and progressive thinking practice, bringing the absolute best in style and clinical excellence while staying true to its community roots. Our relatively 'younger brother' practice on Gloucester Road this year also celebrates a birthday. It is 35 years since the building was turned into an independent opticians by Mr Roger Owen (none other than brother of Michael Owen, previous Wells road custodian!).
Roger became a very popular figure in the local area and also showed great dedication to the community, running the practice for 32 years until deciding to join his brother into retirement in 2010. Lynne and Gerard have since set about instilling the ideas and values of Lynne Fernandes Optometrists.
So from Birthdays to Anniversaries...
Whilst we celebrate 35 years of independent Optometry at our Gloucester Road practice, a very special mention must be given to one of our team members there.
Starting at almost the very beginning in 1978, Lorraine Richmond has been along for the entire journey and nobody appreciates the history of the practice more than herself.
It really is a remarkable achievement of dedication to serving the community she so dearly loves, and she is certainly a familiar face amongst our local residents!
Thank you Lorraine.
